The History of Soccer on the History Channel

History of SoccerThis July, The History Channel in Spanish starts its six-part soccer series, called Campeones del Mundo. It is the history of soccer across Latin America, the area of the world in which soccer is held in the highest esteem. Argentinean-born Pablo Mastroeni hosts the series. He was a member of the 2004 Major League Soccer All Star team and a US National Team star on the winning team in the 2002 Gold Cup.

The series emphasizes the greats of the game, the exciting matches, the passionate fans and the cultural traditions. It tracks the history and development of soccer from its Latin American origins as a tribute to the Gods to the shape of the sport today. Each episode focuses on a country famed for its champions, its culture, and the goals that led to its prominence in the world of soccer. The countries highlighted in the series include Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, and Colombia.
